Aspirin or Coumadin for ASA and PFO?

I had a TIA diagnosed (I'm not sure if it wasn't a neuromuscular or skeletal pain), and consequently found to have ASA and PFO. My cardiologist recommends Coumadin. I wonder if Aspirin therapy would not be sufficient and safer.
