Atenolol/asthma

Hi CC, I take 25 mgs of Atenolol for pvc;s daily.  I just took the  metha-asthma challenge and flunked it.  A few questions..

1. I have had these asthma symptoms since about December, a month AFTER starting the Atenolol.  It seems to be the cause of it, would you agree?  

2.I know asthmatics should not take Atenolol, so I guess I should stop the Atenolol?  


3.Also, how good is the Excercise Stress Echo test for women?  I had TWO in one year and passed with flying colors, but an ekg I recently had showed inverted T's and j points, but my cardio said it looked FINE (my GP sent me in with the ekg to the ER, WORRIED)...The ER doc and my Cardiologist said it was fine.  Would you have any room for concern there?

1. Yes.
2. Check with your doctor first, but that would make sense to stop it.
3. The exercise echo is an excellent test, for women also. With two normal tests, it makes it much less likely that you have significant coronary artery disease.

The Atenolol is not the cause of the asthma.  Ask to have your beta blocker changed.  Never stop taking your beta blocker.  One must tapper off.  Stopping can cause more problems.  

I also have asthma.  My doctor put me on Atenolol, it caused my asthma to act up.  Now I take Lopressor with no problems.  I know Atenolol is suppost to be the drug of choice for us with asthma, but everyone is different and we are the lucky two...ehehheeh.

Thanks Buzz..I went to the pulmonologist and she sent me for the asthma test. I sure was shocked!

I have just recently been placed on Atenelol 25 mg. for a slightly elevated blood pressure.  I have also had spells of waking up and unable to breath  at night. I also felt I have been having attacks of angina and I also have been diagnosed with gerd.  Anyway, I felt great the first 2 or 3 days.  Today I feel a buzz in my head and sort of out of it.  I can hardly keep my head up. Should I have my doctor change the medicine?

I know that beta blockers make my Raynaud's worse, but then the calcium channel blocker has sort of evened it out.  My question to you who are on beta blockers is, do any of you have trouble with cold calves even when you are warm or hot every where else? Sounds silly, but it is driving me nuts!
