Atenolol lowering blood pressure too much?

Atenolol lowering blood pressure too much?

Hello,
I have been taking Atenolol for a week now for an arrhythmia.
I feel like I it is lowering my blood pressure too much.
My normal bood pressure is anywhere from 116-125/60-75
After the meds now for a few days my blood pressure is around 104-100/54-58.. is this getting to low? do I need to call my dr?

Yes you should call, and see your doctor again and again  until he will find the dose for you, that would work. Sometimes it takes time. In my opinion he will tell you on the phone take less, half,or whatever he will think is safe for you.
My best!

I will call and see if they are in today, being it's Sunday. But I don't think they are. And they do already have me on 1/2 a pill. It got to a point last night where my pulse was as low as 49bmp..

They can try another BB and see if another one works better for you - at least call and tell them what's going on so they can decide to lower the dosage or try another bb.

When I first took Toprol my bp/hr went to 70/40 & 40 - they had me go to the ER and gave me a shot of something, but it didn't work...11 hours I stayed at those levels, so they tried different meds until I found Inderal which works for me just a shorter duration.

sometimes a phone call to the local ER can provide advice. compromise and cut the half pill in half.

Thanks all, and No the cardiologist office does not have an answering service.. I know shocking eh? Our dr in another city did, but when we moved to this new city we noticed non of the dr's had this answering service anymore. Kinda strange eh?   I did end up taking my 1/2 dose(which is only 1/2 25mg) I will call dr's office tomorrow and just mention it to them. After calling the cardiologist office, I called my GP.. MOA on the phone said in my case there was NO way the dr would come to the phone and assess. I did not feel like driving and no one to take me so no help from them. Called the BC nursers help line, all they did was tell me to go see my pharmacist.. so again no real help from them.. Pharmacist really did not know what to do.. at first told me to take the meds.. then told me not to take.. She just was not sure. Well I told and will call dr in the am.

Systolic blood pressure under 100 starts to get doctors and nurses attention, but I assure you it will get much lower before it would cause problems.  Generally you need to have BP of 80/45 or similar levels before there is any danger.  I'm just out of the hospital with a heart issue, and when my blood pressure dropped below 95/50 they withheld my blood pressure meds.  I'd simply stop the medication until you talk to your doctor, I'm sure you will be just fine.

well dr's office called and they told me to stop the medication, as it is lowering bp/pulse too low(and having symptoms of dizziness/lightheaded/chest pains again she said at first to continue.. but not if I am having all the symptoms and I was.. so changed here mind and said stop) so she said to stop and she will talk to me on Friday on what other options.
