Atherosclerotic Disease?
Dear MedHelp:

I am a 49yo female who had a sudden spike in BP from a normal 90/60 to a very high 179/108, which sent me to the ER.  Other than Tarlov's Disease (symptomatic: cysts growing in S1 & S2) I have no other medical issues (not overweight, not diabetic, good diet, exercise as the TD allows).  I just received a copy of the report which states "mild atherosclerotic disease just above the aortic bifurcation."  Though it is 'mild' at this point, in surfing the net, the two words which keep leaping out at me are "degenerative" and "progressive."  Q:  Is this disease ALWAYS degenerative, with the inevitable progression toward death, or can it be slowed via meds and lifestyle change?
