Atrial Septal Aneurysm

Atrial Septal Aneurysm

I have seen a forum link (2005) here related to this topic but I have further questions.

I am 38 years old and was diagnosed with an atrial Septal aneurysm ~ 3 years ago.

I also have had episodes of tachyarrythmias especially after running. (Asymptomatic).

Surface bubble study showed no shunt at that time and I was advised not to worry.

COMMENTS:
         1. Dimensions:  IVS .9, PW .9, LVD 5.5, LVS 3.6, AR 3.4, LA 2.7
         2. The right heart is at the upper limits of normal in size. Right
ventricular systolic function appears adequate. The tricuspid and
pulmonic valves appear structurally normal. The IVC and hepatic veins
are not dilated.  There is aneurysm in the interatrial septum bowing
from left to right. There is good opacification of the right heart with
saline contrast injection and from the apical four chamber view no
evidence of right to left shunting.
         3. The left atrium is of normal size.
         4. The mitral valve leaflets appear structurally normal.  There is no
         stenosis or prolapse.
         5. The LV is not dilated.  Regional wall motion is uniform. There is no
paradoxical septal motion.  Global LV systolic function is preserved
with an ejection fraction in the range of 60%.
         6. The aortic valve is trileaflet and opens fully with systole. The
         aortic root is not dilated.
         7. There is no pericardial effusion.

      CONCLUSIONS:
         1. Preserved biventricular function.  Upper limits of normal right heart
         size.
         2. Interatrial septal aneurysm without evidence of shunting by saline
         contrast injection.

I am a bit worried.

I pursued this workup b/c when I was ~ 20 I noticed I had clubbing of my nails (not present in childhood).

I also notice that on occassion I have splinter hemorrhages.

When I was in college I had multiple surface Echocardiograms as I was employed as a technician at that time and they needed healthy males for medical studies. None of those echos showed this aneurysm.

I am a fairly fit and healthy 38 year old, 6 foot, 160 lb male.  Otherwise no other known medical problems.

Is there more I should be doing about this?  Should I have follow-up testing (TEE with saline ect..)? Should I take an ASA?

Thank You
