Atrial Tachycardia

by seeker888, Oct 29, 2007 11:41PM
My brother has this condition and he's gonna go thru a procedure where they're going to go thru the femoral vein and up to his heart to ablate some of the atrial cells. How hard or easy is this procedure? Should I be worried?

With any procedure there's a risk involved. With catheter ablations the risk is small. I've had it done 3 times and it wasn't a problem at all. I had some bruising at the site (in the groin) and general tenderness that goes with bruising. I did feel a bit tired for a couple of days but was able to do my daily routines. During the ablation they give meds that relax a person and at times I think I was sound asleep or at least I don't remember any part of it. Perhaps you could google "catheter ablation" or "radiofrequency ablation"  and you'll find more information that will put your mind at ease.

A year after the surgery myself, Im confident to say "ablation works". One thing though right after the surgery: I felt like I could always feel my heart beat. I wish there was none affected or complicated but thats it, I could always feel my heart beat.  The atrial flutter is healed but that feeling I mentioned will stay with me forever I guess. I no longer suffer from iregular beats, but i must watch for my diet because some foods re-triggers it a little bit. Overall the surgery did worked. I was 6 months in Coumadin.
