Atrium Ablation????

by srg44, Jan 19, 2006 12:00AM
Hello,

I am a 33 yr old male.  I have congenital heart disease, and was born with a single ventrical.  I have had a Waterston Shunt put in and was followed at the Bostons Childrens Hospital by Dr. Fyler and then Dr. Ed Walsh.  I had my original pacemaker put in in 1998.  I now have a dual lead pacemaker that was put in 5 months ago.  One of the leads on the pacemaker is currently shut off because I could feel thumping in my abdomen.

I have been experiencing Atrium Tachacardia for the last (2) months.  I feel terrible and want to feel good again.  We have tried many medications and nothing works.  My Dr., David Navrital in Las Vegas is going to move the lead by making an incision in my chest and screwing the lead in.  The next step will be an ablation, and I understand that my heart will no longer be a ble to beat on it's own and I will be totally pacemaker dependant.

Are there any other options? Is this very risky?  Any comments are appreciated!

srg44,

Thanks for the post.  I really dont feel comfortable advising you on your options without a thorough review of your history and even then I would most likely refer you a a specialist in pediatric cardiology.

Adult congenital heart disease, especially after pallitaive and corrective procedures is a complex area. I would make sure that you are being evaluated by a congenital heart specialist and continue to follow thier recommendations.

good luck
