Automatic blood pressure monitors

There was a earlier post about BP monitors which only received a few responses. Hard to believe there are only a few of us monitoring our BP with the newer automated machines?

So I would like to ask you all that have automatic BP monitors which are the best?

Thank you,....marc

LifeSource UA-767.

I've had it and its been accurate for 5 years now.

It also has a lifetime warranty.  The cuff gave out about a year ago and they replaced it free of charge.

I don't like the home monitors because I get odd readings.  I do have a really small arm, which might not help the issue, but my husband was also getting odd readings.  We paid $50 and got about a year out of it before it went.  And it was a good one, though I can't recall the brand, and our doctor recommended it.

I got the "Omron HEM 712-C" monitor, total accurate.  I took it to the doctor's office and checked it against their BP monitor.  Total accurate, I got the exact same readings, and I use batteries with it.  You can also plug it in an outlet, but I can't because I boght my BP monitor at a Thrift Store.

A Cardiologist told me not to take my BP with a wrist monitor because they are not as accurate.  Just telling you what he said, I never used a wrist monitor.

The reason I can't plug in the BP monitor is because the cord was missing when I bought it at the Thrift Store.  I use it with batteries, and it has been accurate for the last four yrs.  I can only recommend it highly.  I think I saw it at Walmart one time for around $50.00

I have a LifeSource Model UA-779
(http://www.lifesourceonline.com/and_med.nsf/html/UA-779)
And the only complaint I have about it after 3 years is that the plastic has already yellowed. (As plastic does over time, but this already looks like it's 10 years old, or like I smoke around 5 packs a day and blow the smoke directly on the unit... no one in my household smokes, nor have they ever.)

It has always been accurate, only takes 4 AA batteries, which I've yet to have to change. I don't check my BP as much as I used to. (Used to check it at least 2x a day.)

At the time I purchased it, it was on sale for around $100 (CDN), and I definitely  feel it was well worth it.

At Walgreens they still sell the old fashioned ones, you know with the stethoscope and where you pump up the cuff yourself, they are $16.95  I saw them when I was comparing prices of my BP monitor I bought at Goodwill.

I have my deceased father's old-fashioned mercury monitor, he was a doctor.  I've set it up and compared it to my Omron model, and it's very close.  The size of cuff is important, I'm told.  Both my wife and I have high blood pressure, so we use different monitors with different cuff sizes.  I have large arms, she has very small arms, and certainly, we don't/wouldn't get accurate readings should we share.

A great way to raise your BP is to sell your home of 35 years, as my wife and I are doing, and downsize.  If you want to check the general condition of your BP monitors, sell the home that you raised the kids in.  We are making bets every time we check, both our BP is sky-high right now.  I mention this because I think it's important to understand trends.  It probably isn't terribly important that the numbers are exactly right, but monitoring trends is extremely important, and that's what monitors do.  We note that BP rates lower every evening once we get rid of the moving stresses and enjoy a glass or two of a good NW Pinot Noir.  Cheers!
