Back Pain 2 months post Pacer... Pericarditis or Muscle Pull?

by Mark4124, Dec 26, 2005 12:00AM
I had a biventricular pacer implanted on November 2nd. I am back to work and physically feeling quite well. My exercise tolerance is excellent. My only problem is a persistent pain in my upper left back. This pain is worse driving or after getting up from sleeping. My docs feel it is most likely a muscle pull, but there is of course the off chance that it is some pericardial fluid. I am taking naproxen (alieve) 440-660mg/2x a day. The pain went away until I went to the gym again last week and did some incline treadmill and bicep curls. I could get an echo, but I really don't feel like driving down to Boston to get this done only to find out they aren't going to do anything other than have me on NSAIDs which I am already on anyhow. Anyone experienced anything like this post heart surgery? How long should this take to heal if it is a muscle injury?

Mark,

The timing and some of the other facts of the pain suggest that it is not pericarditis (eg...usually pericarditis is worst while laying and better while sitting up).

I would continue to follow up with your physicians and see where your symptoms go over the next few weeks. If they seem like they are worsening, I would seek further evaluation/

good luck

hi,

im in2 my 4 week of pericarditis so they say it is.
i had the scan on my heart and all was good. my temp is up a bit and my paulse a little and some of the wave in my egc. however the doc said that is coming down. i also had every blood test done and mycroplasmia? which has been treated. however its been 2 weeks since i left hospital and i still have the pain in my back.

it first started with 3 big what felt like heart paulpations but im not sure they were. i still get this werid pain or throbing in the middle of my back. i have also got sore pain round my lung area. im starting to wonder if it is a muscle  i have pulled? to me it feels like a muscle throbing. it also happen while in the car drving and i had just moved house that weekend lifting alot of hevy stuff altho being careful. is there any hints u could give me? its starting to drive me mad! other than the pain i am feeling better most of the time.

any ideas?
