Back Pain or Angina?

by Mike, Nov 11, 1999 12:00AM
I am a 51 year old male diagnosed with LVH about 2 years ago.  This came about due to shortness of breath. I have had blood presure problems and been on medication on and off for the last 20 years.  Cardiolite test showed no evidence of blockage. I started an exercise program several months ago and doing well.  However, when I do certain forms of exercise, I have significant fatigue and burning in my shoulders.  This ocurrs primarily slightly above my shoulder blades.  No real discomfort in chest or front part of neck and shoulders.  This seems to happen more when playing basketball than anything else.  Of course, this is probably the most cardio type exercise I do.  I can run on a treadmill for 15-20 minutes until very fatigued and don't have the same problem, although I can't seem to take a good deep breath.

As I write this question I am convincing myself this is not heart related but I think that's what I want to hear so maybe I am ignoring a potential problem?

Thanks.  I just found this site and very impressed!

There is a saying in medicine that the patient will tell you what is wrong if you listen.  I think your body is telling you something and you should listen.  You are in a high risk group and there is a good possiblity this could be heart related.  I would lay off the exercise until your doctor can evaluate you and make recommendations.
