Benicar and headaches?

by hornetgirl, Jul 11, 2007 01:08PM
I have been on Benicar 20mg for about 1 1/2 months.  In the last couple of weeks, I have been waking up to severe headaches everyday.  They get better as the day progresses, but this is making my mornings crappy!  I also feel very lethargic.  I am on Advair 250/50 and allergic to Sulfa drugs...not sure if any of this is related.  My doctor was aware of my allergies and other medications when he prescribed Benicar.  Has anyone else on Benicar experienced this?

I've been on 40/25 mg of Benicar HCT for 3 years and have never experienced headaches. This drug has done wonders for me lowering my BP to 105/70 from 180/90. It takes time to get used to BP meds, if Benicar does not work for you or you have side affects your doctor will have other options for you. I woud try to stick it out on the Benicar, it's a very good medication.

Good Luck!

I just recently had a very similar experience!  After starting taking benicar I started experiencing almost debilitating headaches as often as three times a day.  My doctor sent me to a neurologist who diagnosed me with cluster headaches and prescribed Imitrex which treated the pain but didn't keep it from continuing.  I ran out of benicar, but before I got a chance to get my prescription refilled I noticed that my headaches had stopped!  It's good to see I'm not the only one!

When your pharmacist orders this stuff there is a fact sheet taped to the side of the jar with drug information on it. It tells you everything including how many people died during the testing of the drug. Ask for one.
