Beta Blocker side effects

Hello

My wife has been tacking atenolol beta blockers for a mitral valve prolapse condition for over 20 years and I believe some of the side effects may be creating serious side effect problems for her so we are looking to find a similar drug that would have the least side effects.

Thanks

What kind of side effects is she having?  I lasted on atenolol a whole 4 days and then told me doctor she had to find something else.  I was only getting a few hours of sleep a night, plus is made me feel asthmatic and had episodes of Raynaud's syndrome as mentioned above.  Since I live in Iowa (low of -24 degrees the other day), it was a side effects that really bothered me.  Now I am on 240 mg of Diltiazem and no side effects but it is not controlling the rapid pulse rate very well.  My husband, who has A-fib, saw a mention on one of the discussion boards he reads of Beta Blockers lowering the levels of Melatonin in some patients and causing sleep disturbances.

Hi,

What about trying propranolol (inderal)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inderal
I use it for mitral valve arrhythias (fibrillation) to reduce rate though I have a minor side effect (Raynaud's disease). or Lowpressor http://blood-pressure.emedtv.com/lopressor/lowpressor.html

Do you have blue fingers, LBBB, atrial enlargement or other?
