Beta blockers and side effects

I'm going back to my doctor in January, to determine what if any-
thing to do about my blood pressure, which has been borderline
high this past year 140s/90s.  I have friends and relatives who
have had tolerance troubles with these medications - heart rate
slows down too much.  Usually my pulse is around 70.  Then even
when I try to take my pressure at home, it zooms to 120 bpm.  How
can I get an accurate reading?  How low a dose could I go to see
if it helps, and might it help my PVCs too?  Thanks so much for
this forum and your help.

Beta blockers are a good and safe medication. Of course, like all medications, they can have side effects. For someone with high blood pressure and PVCs, beta blockers are a good choice. If your resting pulse is 70, I would not expect the beta blockers to lower your pulse to a dangerous level. Your doctor will start at a low dose and increase it as needed.
