Bigeminy

by John__0__0, Feb 19, 1999 12:00AM

Can Bigeminy be fixed, or at least managed, as I'm getting a pulse as low as 30 several times per day.
I have been diagnosed with Bigeminy by a Heart Specialist, and it has been suggested that I do not partake of any caffeine or alcohol.
My question is, "Is there anything else I can do?"

Dear John,
Thank you for your question.  Bigemeny is a heart rhythm where a normal beat is "linked" to an abnormal beat.  It is a benign rhythm and generally nothing needs to be done.  Do you have any symptoms with this rhythm?  If you are having symptoms there are medications that can be tried.  A "final" alternative in severe cases is a pacemaker.  Your cardiologist should be able to give you recommendations concerning your particular case.
I hope you find this information useful.  Information provided in the heart forum is for general purposes only.  Only your physician can provide specific diagnoses and therapies.  Please feel free to write back with additional questions.
If you would like to make an appointment at the Cleveland Clinic Heart Center, please call 1-800-CCF-CARE or inquire online by using the Heart Center website at www.ccf.org/heartcenter.  The Heart Center website contains a directory of the cardiology staff that can be used to select the physician best suited to address your cardiac problem.
