Blockages

Can anyone please sort this out for me.  We take Calcium Channel Blockers, we take Cholesterol medication, but
what ARE our arteries blocked WITH?  Plaque is made from what, Calcium or Cholesterol?  Where does Calcium come in?  I am sure it is not related to our body content of calcium, but what do Calcium Channel Blockers do? Aside from the obvious fact that they keep our Blood Pressure down !  Wonder what the drawbacks are, and why are they so  helpful in heart disease? I was always of the opinion that cholesterol caused blockages, but now I am not so sure. So can we EVER get our arteries free of PLAQUE, whatever it is MADE OF ??
AND why is it some people can be very overweight and yet NOT have blocked arteries or Heart disease?  Is it purely
STRESS and CONSTRICTING arteries which some of us do due to our nature, and may not be aware of??
Simone
P.S. Thanks for previous replies to my question on getting answers. I understand better now.

Here is a website of one of the best hospitals in Minnesota: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/calcium-channel-blockers/HI00061

Calcium Channel Blockers block the calcium from entering the cells of the heart and blood vessel walls.  I believe plugged arteries are plugged with cholesterol and calcium.  The calcium can get on the heart muscle and valves also.  Cholesterol is made by the body and comes from the food we eat such as animal fat.  For the plaque to stick in the arteries first there has to be a sticky spot to stick to.  This happens when arteries are bent or twisted and turned (not straight).  As the blood goes through the arteries that are twisted or not straight there becomes a sticky spot where cholesterol sticks and builds.  This is why people with low cholesterol still can have blocked arteries and people with high cholesterol arteries can be clear.  Lecithin is good to take to keep the arteries slippery.  I have to start taking it again myself.  Check with your doctor first before adding any supplements such as lecithin as I do not know what if any medications you are taking.  Hope this helps.
