Blood Clots

Blood Clots

I was diagnosed with a Meninginoma that was removed in May of 2007.
about 2 weeks later I had 3 clots in my left lung and 1 in my right lung.
upon being admitted into the hospital they installed a filter through my groin and I through another
clot. because of the brain surgery the didn't start me on Coumadin for another 4 weeks.
It's been 6 months that i'm on  Coumadin and the Hematologist wants to stop the Coumadin and start me on an aspirin therapy as I have 2 factors now for
having clots they are Lupus Anticoagulant, and Prothrombin. I now have Phlebitis.
The Vascular Dr. says I have to be on  Coumadin the rest of my life.
I don't want to use Aspirin or Coumadin. I would like to use Cod liver oil, Garlic, and
a host of other Minerals, herbs, and Vitamins.
I would appreciate some input on this, I'm sure when I see the Hematologist and talk to him
about what I would like to do I think he wouldn't want me as a patient.
Thanks for any input

I've heard strong opinions on Coumadin: yes and no ways.... I was reading posts people saying they won’t be alive today if they stayed on Coumadin...also I know about a forum friend who could live longer if he let coumadin to help him. Also how old/young are you?
I had blood clots, but I was lucky 2 weeks of shots daily cleared the mess up.
Hope people will give you more input here, those are on Coumadin.
It is a hard decision, do your careful investigation. Good luck.

i do not think you can safely get away from using some "blood thinning" medication. have you asked your doctor about plavix with the aspirin? did you know aspirin can relieve angina?

I could be wrong, but I believe coumadin is a blood thinner and plavix is a blood slicker, really two different things when using for a treatment. From my understanding from my Cardioligist and Hemotaloigist, My coumadin pervents me from forming clots, and the plavix helps keep the arteries slick, keeping the clots from sticking.  They do not have me on the Plavix anymore, as now when my INR/PT gets too low, they use Lovenox shots which helps thinn the blood quickly but does not disrupt the coumadin.  If I am explaining this wrong, please correct me.

I think aspirin and coumadin are the safest way to prevent further thrombosis.
