50 mg Toprol xl (Beta Blockers) would keep my heart rate in the 50s.  In the evenings It would be in the mid to high 40's.  My main symptom was being tiered in the evenings (which I guess is pretty normal ha).

My only suggestion would be to do cardio vascular exercise regularly--around six days a week.

The only time I knew low rates like that were normal, was in a very athletic person! Also, I thought young kids had higher rates?

Because of medications, my heart rate would drop to 50, and I felt terrible.  I would get weak and shaky, feeling like I could not even walk enough to go grocery shopping.  My EP said 50 was fine.  My PCP went to bat for me and got my pacemaker turned up so that it keeps me at 75, and I feel almost normal.  So even though they say 50 is within normal limits, they need to listen to their patients when they say they feel bad.

Dear TLM,

1. What is a normal heart rate for a child at rest and with activity?
A: Children's heart rates are higher than adults and may run around 100 or so at rest and up to 200 or greater with exertion.

Dear Ravi,
These values are within normal limits for a young fit individual.  It is normal for the heart rate to increase with exercise and then to drop back to resting levels within an hour or so.  I can't explain why you feel tired from your heart rate and blood pressure.  Are you getting proper rest and nutrition?
