Blood Pressure Med

by habanerohubby, May 20, 2009 09:37PM
My new  Doc ( 1 Month)  has just recently started me on Metoprolol , it seems like we are changing dose levels to much( I believe I was first taking 50 mg 3 x day) I am now taking 100 mg 2 X day very rarely does my blood pressure go over 150/100 is this too much med I heard somewhere that  this med could actually make things worse. I beliave I may have white coat syndrome as I have just been diagnosed with Hep c. I took my blood pressure at the docs office it was 150 something over 115 something like that and I came home and checked it and it was like 120/80??? any guidance, as this seems to be confusing, are there any lab tests that would show possibly why blood pressure is up.

Habanerohubby are you seeing a cardiologist?  Because I went through the same thing.  My blood pressure was usually 140-150/70-80 at the doctor office but 125-135/65-75 at home which is high for somone my age, 20, but when i went to the cardiologist they put me on 4 blood pressure pills.  Now I am droswy light headed and dizzy all day long.  I keep taking my blood pressure and it is maintain around 110-125/55-65 at home now, but everytime I go back to my cardiologist they want to raise the dose or put me on somthing different.  This got to frustrating and I am now going to see a different cardiologist.  Not once did my  Cardiologist tell my ways other then pills to lower my B.P.  So if I was you I would see another Cardiologist and try things like yoga/meditation/walking ,as gay as they sound they help, and just explain your concerns with your Lopressor.  Also concerning the lab test, they should've preformed a Renal MRI to make sure your kidkney's are ok, EKG, sonogram of your heart, and chest Xrays, but more than likely they will never be able to pinpoint reason for high bloodpress but from the sounds of it you prolly do get whitecoat syndrome
