My dad is a 74 year old male that has had one stentAbdomen - swollen Brain herniation Chronic persistent hepatitis Coronary artery stent Hyperemesis gravidarum Lyme disease - chronic persistent Stent put in one artery, he has an arhythmia (spelling?), high blood pressurePressure ulcer, thyroid condition, and coronary artery disease. Within the last I think 8 months his BP has been like a roller coaster and the doctor told him his heart rate was too fast (no explanation from the dr.) - they finally have his BP meds where dad would be considered to have a "normalNormal saline flush" BP (40 mg vasotec plus 25 mg water pill everyday) so the doctor puts him on a combined med (dad wanted less pills to take - but that didnt happen so why change what was workign?) - having him take 2 EnalaprilEnalapril Enalapril maleate Enalapril-felodipine Enalapril-hydrochlorothiazide (5/12.5mg) in the mornings and a 10 mg Vasoctec at night - isn't this going to make his BP spike again? I mean I'm no medical expert and I know different medications work different ways - but that means he is only on 20 mg of BP meds a day but still is at the same MG of water pill................I have called the doctor's office twiceTwice-a-day now and the first time I called they "forgot" they put him on more meds (meaning upped the dosage of Vasotec) - the second time they kept insisting the doctor did NOT change his meds when finally they saw in the computer that he had.............. i'm thinking its time for him to change doctors or time for me to go to his next visit. I even asked them "Is there something wrong with his heart?" Their reply "We don't see anything about his heart being mentioned at the last visit...".............so why would the doctor cut his BP meds in half when they ARE working????
To anyone who reads this - after SEVERAL phone calls to the doctor - a phone call to the pharmacist who ALSO called the doctor - the doctor realized he made a mistake and had in fact prescribed medication that was 1/2 the dosage of what it was supposed to be.
So please - if you have questions about meds you are being prescribed - ASK about them until you get a satisfactory answer!!!!!
