Blood Test

Blood Test

In order to get an accurate cholestral blood test does one have to
  fast before the test?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Dominick
You should generally fast before a cholesterol test. The triglyceride level is commonly measured at the same time and this value is increased after a meal. The triglyceride level is often used to help calculate the percentage of "bad cholesterol" in the blood.
I hope this is useful. Feel free to write back. I wish you the best of luck.
If you would like to set up an appointment with one of our cardiologists here at the Cleveland Clinic please feel free to call 1-800-CCF-CARE.
