Blood clot three mths after pacemaker

by DG, Nov 07, 1999 12:00AM
Hello,
Some quick background information.  I am 23/w/f who has had two SA node and one AV node ablation and a pacemaker done in the last six mths.  About a mth ago my left arm went numb and I had a ultrasound done and it came back neg.  Last week the same thing happened and againg to ultrasound was neg.  The DR ordered a venogram and it came back pos for a left subclavin thrombosis at which time I was put in the hosp for IV heparin and PO coumadin.  My question is I had my packmaker put in about three mths ago and I have just now developed a blood clot.  I was told that they form two weeks after a packmaker if they form at all.  Could I have had this blood clot for the last three mths and had no symptoms?  Or is it possible for it to form this late after a pcaemaker?
Thank you for your time...

The most likely senerio is that it formed early and you just didn't have any symptoms.  It may have enlarged slightly causing your symptoms and thus its discovery.  Your doctors are doing the right thing in treating it.
