Blood pressure

I have posted before and want to thank you for the answer.  I have assymetric septal hypertrophy with moderate mitral regurge and mild tricuspid regurge.  I also have high blood pressure and hypothyroidism.  I had my last echo the other day and they said it was the same as last year and my heart was strong.  What I want to know is why I have continual chest pain and shortness of breath.  They also said the only restriction I have is to not to go out and lift 250 lb. weights.  When I do any type of exertion such as exercise (walking, light aerobics) or try to do much of any strenious activity my heart starts racing and my face turns bright red, I start sweating and my blood pressure shoots up.  If everything is pretty much okay why does all this happen?

Dear Patti,

Your heart is thickened and due to this fills abnormally and to higher pressures. This is associated with ventricular hypertrophy.  When you heart is in a resting state all is well.  When you exercise or increase your heart rate, it places excessive demands on your heart and will cause chest pain and shortness of breath.  You may nee a higher dose of a medicine called a beta blocker to help control this.

Weight lifting will increase the strain on the heart as well.

I hope this is helpful.
