Blood tests

1.Would you explain what does CCF(new blood test in the news) MPO predicts, when should person be tested and is it better than HS-CRP and cholestrol? 2. Is it better having testosterone at upper or lower normal ranges for prevention of heart disease in middle ages males? 3. What would optimal number be for prevention of heart disease in the middle ages males? 4.Would and does Troponin I blood test detects anything less than < 0.15 ng/ml with a normal limits of NG/ML (< 1.50) and if no would the results of < 0.05 ng/ml and < 0.10 ng/ml,for example be written and reported as < 0.15? 5. Does having Helicobacter Pylori 0.46 (with INTERPRETATION: NEGATIVE: < 0.91 ISR;EQUIVOCAL: 0.91-1.09 ISR; POSITIVE: >1.09 ISR) on the blood test means person has not been exposed and is negative, althrough the result is 0.46 (and not 0.00)? Thank you

Billy!,

Thanks for the questions.

Q1:"Would you explain what does CCF(new blood test in the news) MPO predicts, when should person be tested and is it better than HS-CRP and cholestrol?"

The MPO test has been studied for predicting future acute coronary syndromes and death in patients with suspected coronary syndromes -- ie, chest pain that sounds like its from the heart or associated with EKG changes.  It has not been studied in non-chest pain patients.

Q2/3:"Is it better having testosterone at upper or lower normal ranges for prevention of heart disease in middle ages males?"

No idea.  And to my knowledge this has not been well-studied.  It is certainly not something we check when considering preventive care.

Q4:"Would and does Troponin I blood test detects anything less than < 0.15 ng/ml ..."

Depends on the test vendor.  But really who cares?  Normal values for these tests are based upon a Normal, 95% Confidence distribution of "healthy people" -- we don't know what lower values mean.

Q5:"Does having Helicobacter Pylori 0.46 (with INTERPRETATION: NEGATIVE: < 0.91 ..."

The number 0.46 means that the test was not able to detect H. Pylori units, whatever those may be for this vendor.
