Borderline MVP?

Borderline MVP?

My med. record says " borderline MVP w/ MR". How is it possible to have borderline MVP? It would seem that your mitral valve is either prolapsing or its not. And how can you have MR (mild regurge) without a definite prolapsing valve?
    Thank you for your time.

Dear Donna

There are other causes of mitral regurgitation besides MVP, so it is possible to have regurgitation due to another valve problem. Borderline MVP probably just means that the doctor interpreting the study could not say for sure whether prolapse was really occurring.

I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
