Bradycardia and High Bollod Pressure

by HalS, Apr 13, 2003 12:00AM
I'm a 59 y/o male in good health.  My BP has been rising lately and averages (over last 2 months) 132/87 and peaking at 150/97 over the same period.  My pulse rate is usually in the 50's at but drops to mid 40's occasionally.  I exercise regularly and have no symptoms (dizziness, etc.).  My most recent EKG (March 2003) was normal.  I take no medications on a regular basis.

Should I be concerned about my elevated BP (especially the high diastolic)?
Thank you.

Dear HalS,

Sorry to hear about your high blood pressure. High blood pressure is defined as 2 separate readings of greater than 140/90. You should be concerned about high blood pressure because it increases your risk of developing a stroke, heart attack and congestive heart failure.  Schedule an appointment with an internal medicine doctor for further evaluation this week. I think your exercise regimen is great, please continue.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for your question,
