Bypass Surgery Aborted due to Heart Inflammation

Dear Dr,

My uncle was diagnosed to have 4 blocks in his heart and the attack happened to be on his right side which was blocked to the extend of 95%.
Today, the doctors here had taken him into operation theater to do a bypass surgery, soon after 3 hrs, they came back and said that the heart is in inflammation state (complete blood red) and they cannot go ahead with the surgery without risking the life of the patient.
I would like to understand what it means when the doctor says hear is in inflammation state and they cannot do surgery after cutting open the ribs to see the heart?  Also, I would like to under does this situation would even arise in the first place, and if yes, the action taken by the docs are good ?
