Bypass Surgery

by Digs71, Apr 02, 2009 05:25AM
My dad aged 71 recently undergone Bypass Surgery. After 2-3 days of Sugery, he started to cough. And it is really troublesome. It is dry cough and so consistent that he could not sleep in the night. Can anyone help me as to what is the reason for this. According to Doctors it is normal and will subside soon.

It is normal and will last awhile (could possible take weeks for it to disappear).  He needs to exercise his lungs by blowing out.  With surgery, there is an increased chance of pneumonia.  All the people that I have seen go through bypass surgery or any other heart surgery, had a cough afterwards for up to 3 weeks.  If he exercises his lungs, he will get better faster.
