C-Reactive Protein

I recently had a test called Cardio CRP (C-Reactive Protein) and the results were 1.2 which the doctor said was moderate risk. Since this is a relatively new test for heart disease there isn't a lot of information on it on the internet and I was wondering if anyone could give me the ranges for risk. This sounds like a very exciting test that could save lots of lives in the near future. I had 4x bypass in 1998 and because of the test results my doctor has put me on pravachol and of course an aspirin a day. A study was done at Harvard using pravachol (statin) which greatly reduced the CRP levels.--Gary

The exact ranges of "normal" are being worked out, and in part depend on whether a high-sensitivity test is being used. We are also engaged in a great deal of research on whether CRP is indeed useful. It is unknown at present whether an elevated CRP causes heart disease or is the result of having heart disease. Since you have had a bypass, aspirin and a statin would probably be indicated anyway, regardless of your CRP level, so I would agree with taking them.
