CHF and Bypass

My 75-year old father had a quadruple by-pass in late 2006 and now has Congestive Heart Failure. What life expectancy is possible?

I remember correctly about 40% of  CHF patients die within a 5 year period.  That doesn't take into consideration age, life style, other health issues, family history, diet, take meds as directed, etc.

Hi Ruby104,

My Dad is about the same age as your Dad.  He had CABGx4 in 1998 and also has CHF.  He is on a great medicine regime and is doing well.  He takes quite a few medications, has an ICD/pacemaker, but other than tiring easily, he does the things he has always done.

I don't think you can pinpoint a life expectancy since there are so many factors involved.  Make sure your Dad has a good internist and a good cardiologist who follow his vitals and labs routinely.
