CT scan results

Had a CABG in 2009, 51yrs old with a history of uncontrolled hypertension 180/240-100/140 - had a CT 6/2010 with dilated ascending thoracic aorta 4.1x3.4 and moderate cardiomegaly mild bibasilar atelectasis - been having back pain and lower pain in my rt flank - have a kidney stent in the rt kidney 2006 due to high BP - take .1 and .3 clonidine, 75 tekturnia qam/qpm, lisinpril 40 qam/qpm, toprol 100 qam/qpm, hydralizine 50 qam/qpm. Should I be concerned with the pain in my back?  Should I have a 2nd opinion.  I also have diabetes 2 - taking Lantus and just added another insulin on a sliding scale for meals - I take Nexium, Singular, Glipizide, Metformin 500 qam/qpm - use a SVN with albuetrol when needed.

Your dilated ascending aorta would most likely not be the cause of your back pain.  I assume that the CT scan also looked at your descending aorta to make sure this also wasn't dilated.  At this point, your aorta will need to be followed with a CT scan at least every year and I would have another one checked in 6 months to make sure it is not dilating quickly.  But the back pain is likely a separate process.  I do not think it is related to your blood pressure either.  But, you definitely need better control of your blood pressure.  It should be < 130/80 with your dilated aorta.  Your doctors should check to make sure the stent in the right kidney is still open because this could be a potential reason why your blood pressure is so high.
