Calcification of Aorta & rt and Lt Ilian arteries

I went to the local Air Force clinic complaining of pain in groin and right leg. I'm a 62 yr old female. An X-ray showed the calcification or the aorta and right and left iliac arteries. The only advice given by my Primary Care Mgr was to begin taking a baby aspirin. Should I follow up with a Vascular Specialist? I have a cardiologist and had an ECHO done this past April and it was fine. I do have MVP and mild Aortic regurgitation.

Calcification of the blood vessels is a common problem with aging individuals. This can often times be associated with underlying cardiovascular disease involving the heart and blood vessels of the neck, arms, stomach, and leg. A vascular specialist is often involved if there are signs of peripheral vascular disease such as claudication (leg pain that occurs with exercise, relieved with rest).  If you have symptoms like this, you should speak with your primary care physician who can conduct a more thorough history and physical to determine whether further testing should be done. Otherwise, good blood pressure and cholesterol control, healthy diet/exercise, and lack of smoking are the cornerstones of maintaining good cardiovascular fitness.

Regarding your MVP and aortic regurgitation, serial echocardiograms are usually done annually to monitor for progression of these issues.
