Calcium Channel Blocker allergy?

Calcium Channel Blocker allergy?

I've been taking Cardizem LA for just a little over a month now. Just recently my hands and feet have been itching like crazy! I haven't changed laundry detergent or soaps at all, so I was wondering if anyone knows if this could be a allergic reaction to the med? And has anyone else had this problem while taking this drug?

I hope the beta blocker works for you! What is the name of it?

I WAS on the beta blocker "Bystolic", but my Cardio took me off of it. It worked beautifully for my BP and my palps went away. Now I'm on the CCB and my palps are back and my BP is still kind of high. My doc raised the dose and it's still not helping.

You also got itching of the hands and feet on the CCB? I just thought it was unusual, the itching because there are no spots or bites or anything that looks like it would itch that would cause the itching - I'm not making sense - LOL. But anyway, I was hoping it wasn't the med, but I think it is :(

Well - the beta blocker didnt work well - 2nd time he tryed on the same stuff..
its Coreg cr 40mg - I crawled the walls from it -  and after 2.5 days -had to stop taking it.
my upper lip swelled up on me - clearly its a allergic reaction I have.
im back on the ccb verapamil.  at least I know what to expect - as far as side effects !
im taking less of it - and cutt way down on a dieretic pill .. as they say it caused the heat
problems with breathing ?  im not sure what to think !

I checked online at a few sites - on ccbs and found itching and tingling and numbness
as a side effect -less common they posted ?   however you might check under the name
of the medication your taking (ccb)  online and it should tell all the Nasty side effects

like all b.p meds - I found that the Doctors dont tell you much about side effects
and sometimes, there isnt much listed as side effects online ..so as 2nd plan check
with diffrent groups of people who take your medication daily.. what they post about it..
there are a lot web sites around .

I found with Toprol xl beta blocker - there were over  78 diffrent side effects !
the mfg only listed  8 to 10 of them , and most were non threating types.

also If your itching bad enough , Tell your Doctor to get you off the meds - its a bad side effect and could be allergic reaction to the meds !

beware however - that some (not all ) Doctors are paid Bonus money $$$  for pushing
certin medications .. I belive since my dumbell Doctor tryed me twice on Coreg cr
he must be expecting a bonus for my perscription , that I just tossed in the trashcan !!

Hope you feel better and can get switched or changed to something better and not worse !!

I dont trust Doctors Anymore !!
too meny lies -  and lots of guessing !!!   that isnt doctoring at all.

take care well wishes

To be honest with you, I don't trust them anymore either.

I called his office today and talked to his nurse and she told me he said that it's not the medication thats causing the itching! Well what else could it be? There are NO bug bites, NO sores of any kind, NO red spots, NO dry skin, just normal looking skin that itches like crazy! The nurse said if I'm concerned just to call my primary doctor - for WHAT?! I'm sure he will run a few tests (to make it look like he's doing something) and then tell me it's NOT the medication. I went through this in March. I had a bad reaction to Spironolactone. I ended up in the hospital for elevated liver enzymes. One doctor took me off the Spiro and my enzymes went back down and these doctors to this day still tell me it wasn't the med that caused the elevated liver enzymes!

I'll look up the ccb and see what sites say about it. Duh, I should have thought of this before! :-P

Your getting the Run around treatment from your Doctors office..
any Nurse or worker in the office, shouldnt have anything to say about
your health or problems you have !  I got the same a few times - go back to your Primary Doctor request !  even from a Cardioligest for b.p med adjustments or changing meds.  Pass the buck ! its called .

I found by reading a few sites online, for side effects helped me and also talking to people and reading -complaints online about the meds effects.
really opened my eyes !

you got the typical b/s  routine from a nurse - its not the meds , its you
and its in your head ! most common words from  (some) Doctors !
The last Dumbell - Doctor that told me its in my head - I stood up to him and said , Listen you ! if its in my fricken head , You try it then !! lets see how you like it !! and what it does to you !!   I was removed from his office for yelling and telling him how I felt .. by a security officer !
I laughed all the way out the door !!

This new age of Doctors we have in the u.s.a.  suck !  most are fast paced idiots - that cutt corners - guessing all the time ! treat the symptom with pills first and formost ..never to reserch the meds they hand out to you or me !

I have had 9 diffrent Doctors already - been to 4 diffrent cardiologists
and 2 specialists with in my Insurance plan ..
every one of these so called Doctors , Guessed at my problems !
and threw pills at me , like candy -  and out of the 9 doctors  7 of them
told me - point blank !  dont call me if you have any side effects . I dont want to know !!

1 got to sit and talk to my attorney - as I ened up in the E.R..  over his
stupidness -

Like You , I can not trust Any Doctor - Anywhere .
at least not in California.

Take care and well wishes
