Can Someone Help Explain

TRIGLYCERIDES 101
CHOLESTEROL     134
HDL CHOLESTEROL   41
NON-HDL CHOLESTEROL 93
LDL CHOLESTEROL 73
CHOL HDLC RATIO 3.3                                                    Are these considered good values? I am scared I have something wrong with my heart so my Dr. gave me a full lipid panel but then failed to explain my results. She said I am fine and need to stop worrying.....

Thanks for your response.

I do want to explain something quick. Maybe someone has some insight...

Back in Feb I watched my gram die of CHF. Mind you she was in her late 70s overweight and smoked most of her adult life. A month after I had what my Dr said was my first panic attack. I couldn't breathe, chest pains, rapid heartbeat the works. Rushed to ER. They performed all tests. Ekg blood work chest xray and an ultrasound to make sure it wasn't gallbladder related. All fine. Since then ive had off and on chest pain. I'm scared my heart is trying to tell me something and I keep putting it off saying its anxiety. For the past 2 weeks as well I've had slight leg pain. Just a dull ache all day in both legs. What other tests can I ask my dr for to rule out my heart.

Your doctor is definitely right about your blood work.  Triglycerides less than about 125 are great.  Cholesterol below 175 or so is excellent, especially with a good to bad ratio of 3.3.  Here's a breakdown.

Total cholesterol below 200 is good.

LDL, the "bad" cholesterol, should be less than 130..yours is 73.  Great!

HDL, which is the "good" cholesterol because it helps keep your arteries clear, should be above 40, optimally.  Yours is 41, so awesome!

NON-HDL should be 30 higher than LDL, yours is 20 higher, which is not super but your RATIO of total cholesterol to HDL is 3.3..and anything less than 5 is good.

Your lipid panel is good.  Of course, these values vary somewhat by age, sex and weight, but you are well inside the normal ranges for healthy lipid levels.

You can see what the Mayo clinic says here:

Ok. Well good to hear! I've been having slight chest pains on and off for a while now. My Doc keeps assuring me I am too young (26) for heart problems.
I recently am cut back on sugars and fat so hopefully that will help. I come from a family full of heart issues so I'm constantly paranoid and worried something is going to happen to me.

Overall, good numbers! Your LDL should ideally be under 130, buy your good cholesterol (HDL) is higher than average which is good. You ration should be under 4.5 and yours is ideal.

These are great numbers, watch your sugar and fat intake a bit and even your LDL will be ideal.
