Can feel my heart beat when placing hand on chest

I can feel my heartbeat when I place my hand on the left side of my chest. Is this normal? I can't feel my mom or sister's heart beat though so I am worried. Also, when I stay still I can see my hair move with each beat, if I place a post-it on my shirt, I can see that move with each beat as well. I am 27, F, overweight, not very active. I'm just afraid I have some sort of heart issue that's causing my heart to beat harder.

Hi there,

Do you know what your Blood pressure is?  With obesity your heart does have to work harder and you can suffer from high blood pressure, and not be aware of it.  It will do your heart a great deal of good, if you start an exercise regime and eat heart-healthy diet.

I know that this time of the year, it is harder, but set yourself a goal for the new year to loose some weight and eat healthier.

All the best, and please let us know how you are doing.
