Can severe fall cause pericarditis months later?

Can severe fall cause pericarditis months later?

I had a severe fall in Sept 2007 and injured my back and right leg. While I was being treated for the fall over the next many months, I developed chest pain in Jan 2008 that I attributed to severe stress from all that I was going through. The pain persisted and finally got so bad that in April 2008 I entered the hospital via the emergency room believing I was having a heart attack.

I was diagnosed with acute pericarditis and had surgery for a pericardial window and drainage.

My cardiologist during follow up treatment, later made reference verbally to the fact that a severe fall could have caused the pericarditis. Is it really possible I could have slowly developed this condition to where it became acute months after my fall?  Thank you.
