I'm 35 yr. old very active, thin & a non-smoker......However, my father died yrs. ago of heart attack @48......
I have low HDL, & my doctor has been treating it aggressively first w/Niaspan then Zocor.....Now, he wants me to try the two together.....The Zocor & the Nisspan lowered the other numbers (overall, LDL, & triglercides) which were ALREADY normal, but they've also lowered the HDL to...My last profile was overall cholesterol-141, LDL direct-86 triglercides-68 & HDL-33.........
Also, I've had 2 cardio CRP readings: one in 2003 was .7 & one this past April was .6
Is there any drug on market that is designed to raise HDL?....I mean, seems like drug companies have had enormous success in lowering LDL, but not raising HDL.....
Is the cardio-CRP test viewed as a good predictor of potential heart trouble?.......Is there any other tests that someone w/my family history should undergo?......Sometimes I get very stressed at work, but don't have any real bad habits.....

Thanks for the post. While I've never been to Hawaii, I would imagine its a heck of a nice place to take a hike.

Its a big problem in cardiology right now. There isnt a great way to raise HDL. Some cardiologist really think that the next great advance in Cardiology will be drugs targeting HDL. You might of seen the Apo1Milano study from the clinic which was a HDL based Drug that showed some promise for reversing coronary disease. There are other drugs that should also bee available in a few years that specifically target HDL. Hopefully, the experts are right and these drugs show promise.

It is and it is synergistic with other markers. We know that inflammation plays an important role in the progression and stability of plaque in the coronary wall. A low CRP is a marker for less inflammation and hopefully less activity in the artery.

Right now I wouldnt do too much else except continue your active and healthy lifestyle. Stress in itself is generally a bad thing as long as you do not have maladaptive ways of dealing with it such as smoking, not exercising or eating poorly.
