Cardiac Amyloidosis & AF in Rt Heart Failure

Hi

I was hoping that someone could answer whether there are any recent advances in treating cardiac amyloid.

My father has had AF for 5 years and recently developed right heart failure with extensive peripheral oedema being the main symptom. Additionally he had a slow heart beat and NSVT - so has ended up with a pacemaker (St Jude single lead with defibrillator).

Unfortunately it would seem that this has not managed the gradual build up of fluid peripherally again (one week post discharge)  and his Cardiologist has suggested that he may have amyloid - based on the fact that he does have thick heart walls. (yet undiagnosed).

I am trying not to get scared by reading internet forums about this (!). His Cardiologist has said that the management path is just treating symptoms - and at the moment he has increaed his oral Lasix - in order to see if we can control his fluid gain orally. If this doesn't work he will have to be admitted for IV Lasix again.

He does not want to live his life in and out of hospital having IV Lasix - even though i am jumping the gun a bit - as this isn't what we are faced with JUST yet - this is something i want to prepare him for - if required.

Are there ANY other treatment approaches someone could help me with.
