Cardiac Catheterization Question

Cardiac Catheterization Question

About fourteen years ago I had heart palpitations and minor chest pain. Long story short, I eventually underwent a cardiac catheterization procedure. It was probably unnecessary, being that I was only 27 years old, female, normal weight, with no other health problems. Results came back normal on all fronts.

At the end of the procedure I remember feeling something as the doctor was removing the catheter from my heart. It felt Iike something was moving in my chest, like I was feeling him remove the tube. He said I shouldn’t have felt anything. After the procedure, I was concerned that the movement of the catheter in the artery in my chest may have damaged the artery wall or lining, making it more possible that I could develop a blockage in that artery later. Is this possible?

I ask this because now I have more palpitations than usual (when I exercise at the gym or when I’m at rest). It feels like skipped beats. I’m also starting to experience very quick dizzy spells often, however I don’t really feel the skipped beats when this happens.

Thank you.

Complications of a coronary angiogram can include infection, bleeding, heart attack, stroke, abnormal heart rhythms, and damage to the coronary vessels or vasculature. However, these complications are exceedingly rare especially when done by an experienced operator (1-2%).  Although it is impossible to say definitively over the internet -- it would be extremely unlikely that this is the case given that it is several years afterwards. Complications are usually acute in nature and are known either during or immediately following the procedure.
