Cardiac Surgery Back-Up

Can you lead me to articles or other information which discuss hospitals' need to provide cardiac surgery backup when performing angioplasty?  Is surgery backup necessarily required?

This is a issue of discussion currently in the cardiology community and there is no clear consensus.  It may be OK to perform simple angioplasty with surgical backup available at a nearby hospital and some centers are doing this.  A medical librarian can help you find articles on this topic.
