Cardiomyopathy

My son is 16 yrs. old and on Adderall 10 mgs. bid. He was just recently diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and arrythmias. We see a pediatric cardiologist as soon as they can give us an appt. He has syncope and nausea and fatigue.  Should he still take adderall?  he is ADD.  Sincerely, diane cates

Thank you so much for your advice.  I called his general Dr. about the adderall and the nurse flippantly said it's fine for now.  Later she called me after talking to the Dr. and told me that since the event monitor showed so many arrythmias to get off of it.  It is for ADD and he really  needs something but I don't care so much about his grades anymore. The ped cardiologist is out of town this week so they assured me that he would get him in sooner. They are to call his Dr. Monday. I have to got to Memphis because he comes to Tupelo only one day a mth. Sometimes I can't believe how non caring medical people are.  I have been an X-ray tech for 27 yrs. and I work at 3 ortho, sports med Drs. office and I treat every patient like I would my family member.  It isn't that hard!   I am devestated about my son.  I have Hep C and have been on Pegasys and copegus  6 mths.(clinical research).  It is like chemo and I have been deathly ill and worried I would die before my grandson grows up.  I'm not so obsessed about my illness now. I would die to let my son be healthy. My son just turned 16 on Mother's day. He is so young.  Do you think they have a shortened life expectancy?  How much?   Thank you so much for answering me again!   Diane

This is something that you really need to ask your doctor about. If the Adderall is for the ADD, they may want to have him stop it. Did you get a sooner appointment for him to see the cardiologist???
