Carotid sinus massage and tacy

How much pressure and for how long is required to slow heart rate down. Can the pressure be qualitatively described ( i.e. finger pressure to take pulse ) or quantatively described ( i.e. PSI ).

Any textboor or journal cites for the amount of Carotid Sinus Pressure would be appreciated.

Dear Fred
Before applying carotid pressure to yourself, you should consult with your doctor. People with carotid artery disease can cause a stroke (rarely) with carotid sinus massage. It usually takes a couple of seconds of pressure at a level to cause mild discomfort for carotid sinus massage to be effective. It should be massage and not just firm pressure.
I hope this has been useful. I wish you the best of luck. Feel free to write back.
