Cath questions

Hello,
I am scheduled to undergo a cath on Tuesday.  As a prelimnary test the cardiologist did an echo.  This showed I have two "leaky" valves (mitral and tricuspid), a slightly stenotic aorta, and the pumonary artery had a high pressure.  The cardiologist wanted to proceed with the cath due to the above, the chest pain that I was having, an "abnormal EKG" at rest and my number of risk factors.  (Age 49, Hypetension, overweight, sedentary lifestyle, family history)  My question is this--What are the probablities that they will find CAD?  I know this answer is will not be an absolute and it does depend on the actual cath.  I feel that if I know alittle ahead of time what to expect as results I can prepare emotionally.  Thanks

Dear Becky,
Given your history, the odds are pretty high that you will have some coronary artery disease.  The question really should be how much coronary disease.  If it is mild to moderate then lifestyle modifications and perhaps medications will be all that are needed.  If there are severe blockages then more definitive treatment such as angioplasty or surgery may be indicated.  Hope this helps prepare you.
