Chest Pain related to Epigastric Hernia?

by janef, May 21, 2002 12:00AM
In Oct 2000 I had a hysterctomy, at which time they found an epigastric hernia in the subsyphoid area.  At the time the hernia measured 2.5cm x 2.5cm.  The hernia was not repaired because I had not been complaining about any symptoms relating to it and it was not in the original incision line.  I am not having bouts of unexplained chest pain and wondering if they can be related to this hernia.

Dear janef,
Gastric reflux (heartburn) is a common cause of unexplained chest pain.  This may be worse in persons with an epigastric hernia.  Ask your doctor about starting a medication such as Pepcid to see if this helps the chest pain.
