Chest Pain

Hi Doc,

A Few months ago my life change. I had my first aniexty attack, it felt really bad. I'm 26 years old male. I thought I was having a heart attack. I went to the ER and they told me everything look ok. They did a EKG, X ray, and Blood Work on me. My BP is 142/89 and 280 Cholestrol. I'm 5'9" and weigh 232. I have pain in the middle of my chest and my back. I have also been getting this thight feeling right below the middle of my chest. Sometimes I get really bad headaches and all so I'm been getting bloated even when I eat small meals. I have done two EKGs and they say it's normal. Can people my age have heart attacks or what can it be.

Thanks

See a doctor to rule out what you have from what you don't have. Then do some research on your own too. Get your BP down by changing your nutrition and exercising.

Could be GERD too because you say you get bloated after meals.

However, it could be something more serious than anxiety attacks or GERD. There are so many conditions which cause chest pain and heart attack is only one of them. I found a list on the web with over 100 conditions which can cause chest pain. That was shocking.

You can have all negative tests and still have something wrong. That happened with me. It took months before the condition releaved itself. I had the bloating too and it was NOT GERD. I had so many people tell me indigestion even one doctor. The problem is I don't eat spicy or fatty foods. I had doctors tell me GERD, anxiety, malingerer, hypochondriac, attention seeker, faker, etc. It turned out to be pericarditis. It's not a serious condition when caught early. However, I had it for over 2 years, for the last 8 months it was very bad. By the time I got diagnosed, mine had progressed to include the muscle of my heart too. And I had several complications. Still I am recovering just fine by following the doctors' orders.

People your age are prone to get pericarditis; most common age group 20 - 30 and male. That's probably why mine was missed, I'm 54 and female. Still pericarditis is less common than other conditions which can cause chest pain.

Diagnosis is my symptoms, signs, and test results and is a process of elimination.

Hello Joe
I understand what you are going through as I myself went through the same situation. Anxiety attacks and Heart attacks can often mimic each other's symptoms. My advise would be to see a cardiologist and rule out any problems with your heart. Do not lend yourself to this vicious cycle of anxities.
