Chest Pain

Hi
Im a 22 year old female who has been experiencing chest pain for a while now and i am worried it is something to do with my heart. There is no heart disease in the family and i have never suffered with any such problems.
It started back in oct 2006 when i was 21. I was admitted to the hospital for the night and had an ecg chest xray and various blood tests inc d dimer and troponin and everything was fine so i was sent home. I saw a cardiologist a few weeks later and had another ECG and echocardiogram and everything came back fine. He said my heart was perfectly normal. After this the GP diagnosed me with costochondritis. The pain i was having in my chest was awful. Sometimes it was sharp stabbing, sometimes just a dull but painful ache on the left side radiating to my arm. I ended up going to the A+E several times and each time the ECG and bloods came back fine and therefore was basically just dismissed as a hypochondriac.
The pain finally died down in about March meaning i'd had it about 5 months.

Thank you for your reply. I will see my GP again this week (possibly a different one) for a second opinion.
Can you tell me, is it possible for costochondritis to cause these symptoms?
Would any serious or immediatly life threatening heart problems have been found in my recent tests?

Given your age and lack of family history it is unlikely that you have coronary artery disease secondary to atherosclerosis.  You may still have what is known as congenital heart disease, where for instance there is an abnormal location of a coronary artery.  Another less likely possibility is that you have a large vessel vasculitis affecting the intracranial branches causing the neck and jaw pain but this is less likely given the low level of inflammatory markers.  One way to address all these complaints is to obtain a CT angiogram of the chest, but this tests drawbacks of radiation as well as contrast.

Two weeks ago i got woken up by the same chest pain id had last year. I saw my GP who said he believed it was the costo returning, he listened to my chest and said everything sounded ok, so i was sent on my way.
Now last wednesday evening after having a bad few days with the pain, which was also radiating in the left hand side of my neck and jaw/teeth i got scared and went to the A+E. The doctor there ran an ECG, chest x ray and blood tests. Im not sure what all the tests were but i know he did d dimer test and he said there was no infection in my body and they also took blood from my wrist i think he said to check oxygen or gas levels? Anyway every test came back fine so he also believed it was the costo and it was irritating muscles in my neck and face so this is why i am getting pain there.
It is the pain in my neck/jaw that i am finding hardest to deal with as i never had this on my last costo flare up and it is making me think that my heart is involved.
Have i reason to be worried or should i be happy with the tests that have been done on me and with the doctors diagnosis?
Should i be pushing for any further tests?

Thank you for your time
