Chest Pressure/ Shortness of Breath

Chest Pressure/ Shortness of Breath

I am a 24-year-old white female non-smoker, no drugs/alcohol, 5'9" 190lbs.
I have had a sensation of pressure/shortness of breath in my chest for several years now.
Sometimes it's very intense and other times less so.
It's worse in the evenings and when lying down.
Sometimes exercise (especially in cold dry air or after walking up a flight of stairs) can make it worse, but other times not.
I'll very rarely have a small area of pulsing pain on either the right or left side of my sternum and am not sure if this could be costochondritis.
I have had several echocardiograms and a cardiopulmonary exercise stress test, all of which were normal.
If I take Ibuprofen regularly, the chest pressure goes away almost entirely and I was wondering if the vasoconstrictive or anti-inflammatory effects of Ibuprofen could reduce the symptoms of a vascular malformation or if pleuritis or pericarditis were the only causes of chest pressure that would respond to this medication.

Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

A negative stress test and normal echocardiogram are reassuring tests in someone of your age that there is no underlying structural heart diseae (valves, etc.) and confers a very low liklihood that you have coronary artery diseae. However, there are other conditions that can cause chest discomfort including problems with the lungs, skin/muscles, and GI system. Ibuprofen/NSAIDs can certainly decrease pain that is caused from an inflammatory state -- which certainly could be caused by a pericarditis, pleuritis, or costochondritis. However, if any/either of these are present, it should be looked further into what is causing the inflammation. This is usually done in conjunction with other tests such as a CXR, basic blood work, ECG, and a good history and physical. If you are having persistent symptoms, I would suggest speaking to your doctor about looking into other possibilities of what could be causing this -- especially if it is causing you daily discomfort.
