Chest Pressure Day after Run

by Mhorne, Nov 09, 2009 01:09PM
I am a 47 year old male, 5'7, 150 lbs.  I run about 25 miles a week. Good BP and cholesterol.   Two years ago, I had been having some chest tightness at times, some of the times related to stressful days at work and some perhaps the next morning after a long run.  I had a stress echo and it was great and the tightness seemed to go away not too long after that.  I have not really had the issue since then until today.  I ran a 9 mile race yesterday, not at an extreme effort, but more than my normal 9 mile training pace.  This morning I was tired and had some chest tightness.  Now, at the same time, I have had a very stressful project at work for the last 3 months.

Anything to worry about or just maybe tired from the extra running effort yesterday?

Well, this most likely is related to your run, but you are a male which puts you at risk for having CAD and suffering from a heart attack.  Because I can't really talk to you and examine you, I always suggest talking to one's physician and getting an ECG when one is having chest pain because the risk of missing a heart attack always outweighs (in my opinion) the trouble of going through the workup.
