Chest discomfort

by lashunda, Feb 21, 2007 12:00AM
about three years ago, i started having problems with shortness of breathe and chronic coughing. I coughed for about three months but it was not a cold or anything like that. I am not a smoker or a drinker.I went to the doctor and he told me that i had bronchitis, then about a year later another doctor told me that it was asthma. I currently take medicines to control asthma but i really don't think thats what the problem is because i still feel short of breathe, chest discomfort and plus i cough up clear phlem. i have to props up on pillows at night to that i can sleep comfortably. What could possibly be the problem?

It may still be the asthma. Did the docs do a pulmonary function test? I have asthma and your symptoms are typical of asthma that is not under control yet. Don't know which meds you're using or how you're using them. It might be a good idea to go back to the doctor and explain that you're still having problems. Do you have a peak flow meter? That's what I use. There are times when I don't feel too bad but I'm coughing a lot. I use my meter and see that my breathing ability is dropping. Usually I can get it under control within a day or two with my meds. If it gets worse then I go in to use the nebulizer. Yep, I think you should talk to the doc. You don't have to cough and be short of breath  like this.
