Chest muscle pain?

Good Moring Dr.

I have costochrondritis, fibromyalgia and myofascal pain syndrome. I often have pain in the ribs in under my left breast that will go through the breast and into the shouder mainly left sided. I also get pain from the shoulder down to the breast, the underarm and collar bone get involved.

How I am I suppose to know if this is heart or one of my syndromes. I do not get center breast pain and the pain I have hurts to touch and also hurts to move. I have read that if you press on the area and it hurts more It is muscular. I have also read that during a CVA your pulse rate will be very rapid or irregular, is this true?  I am 63 and sometimes my anxiety gets really bad with this pain. I cannot be going to the ER every time I have it.

I do get a yearly echo for mitral regurgatation and have had  EKG done a few times when I has this pain.

Thank you, Line

Line,

It is sometimes difficult to tell the difference between chest pain syndromes. However, it should be reassuring that these symptoms have been evaluated.

Certainly you should seek attention if there is any new symptom quality, intensity, or location or if your usual measures to alleviate your current pain syndrome do not work.

Most are pretty in tune with their body and do realize that something is different from their other type of pain.

hope this is a start.

good luck

Line,

What triggers the pain, how long does it last and does anything relieve it? Does it come back and go away? Have you had a MUGA scan or angiogram to test for vascular spasm? Do you have diabetes?

I ask because I was misdiagnosed with costochondriatis and espophaegal spasm before a specialized test found coronary endothelial dysfunction, a marker for heart disease. I also have aortic valve disease. I take nitrates and an ACE-inhibitor and am feeling well after months of trial and error.

Women are often misdiagnosed. I hope the CCF doctor can share his or her valuable insight in the complexities of accurately diagnosing females.

Be well,

Carolina

I get an echo every year and had several ekg's done while having the pain. The pain comes and goes and have been getting it for at least 7  years. It is scarey though.

Thanks for input, Linda

Sorry forgot I am not diabetic, no high b/p. Heat relieves the pain and seems like repitition like beng on the pc too long aggrevates it also carrying my grandchildren. Even a heavy sewatshirt will trigger the pain.

This is frightening at times even though I have been getting this for years. I do not get the pain in the center of my chest, more breast above abd below. Yesterday I had an acho done and am so sore from the tech pushing in with the probe, it is un real.

Did anyone mention costochrondritis to you, that is what I have been dxed with. It is inflamation (inflammation) of the chest wall. Oh my aching ribs.

I'm very curious about this topic, particularly because I experience intense chest, primarily in the mornings. It usually lasts between 10 minutes and 2 hours. I am quite, young, 27, and my doctor tends to write me off a lot. But, I was persistent, especially when I started feeling skipped beats. He finally put me on a holter monitor for 30 days and it revealed that I have PACs quite often. The PACs and chest pain do not occur simultaneously, but they are scary, nonetheless. Anywaym the point of my post: what kind of testing did you have done to discover the origin of the chest pain? Are there other tests that are more conclusive?

Take care!

I went my Dr. with all this rib and breast pain. She did an ekg which was fine and was poking in between my ribs and I was screaming in pain, She said I had costro. I then went to rhummy who did the same thing and said the same thing. I get so sore that I even have to take my necklace off at times. You, yourself should feel more pain if you push in on the area. I do, plus the pain referes to other areas as well for a few minuets. There are no tests for costro, fm or myoascal pain, you just have a lot of trigger and tender point.

I have been reading comments on costochondritis and I have been worried about this condition. I was diagnosed last summer when I was having chest pains-went to the ER. I am 28 years old. It has been almost a year and I still have the pain, especially when I twist my body or lift anything heavy. I am just worried that the diagnose is correct and it's not something more serious. It doesn't hurt to press on my chest-I'm not sure if that's a definite symptom of the condition. I don't know how to make it go away!!

When I was 13, I got this horrible pain in my chest accompanied by cold and hot sweats, it all lasted about 20-30 minutes. I didn't think too much of it until it happened again while at work when I was 20 years old. My blood pressure went way down, I was tingly, the whole bit... The boss called an ambulance and at the hospital they found nothing. It happened again when I was 22, again I went to the hospital by ambulance and again they found nothing. About 2 months ago, I got it again one night... I just went with it... My chest was very tender, the pain seemed to travel a little to my lower torso and upon massaging certain points in my back, went away a little bit... Since then I've had about 7-8 "attacks" of the sort, ranging from 20 minutes to about an hour. Seems that pacing back and forth at a steady pace helps. Has anyone ever experienced this? Tomorrow I will be going to see my doctor about it but I'd like to know if other people have experiences this, what they know about it and what they do about it.

Hi I Just turned 26 on the 5th of aug. and...I been having really bad pain in my right upper chest and my right upper side where my rib cage and it is really tender under my armpit.. and my right shoulder blade really hurts...

with my chest it has been hurting for about a week a day after my birthday..it always hurts no matter what I do I could be doing things or just be laying down relaxing..and I get these real bad spasms it feels like its more in my chest then in my breast and my right breast is rather tender too..and the spasms last for a few secs but feels like it is longer..and I am getting them all the time..the spasms come no matter what I am doing..I been really trying to take it easy and relax..doesn't seem to help with the pain..I have notice when I take deep breaths and when I laugh it hurts a lot more..it hurts when I breath as well.

and my side hurts all the time hurts more when I try to do things with my right arm or when I lift it up...

my right shoulder blade has been hurting for a week and 3 days..I though I got bit by something..I had a tiny bite on my lower shoulder blade..but I noticed the pain was in other places then where the bite was on my shoulder blade..that's when I noticed that my blade wasn't hurting because of the bite..well I get really shape pain in my shoulder blade..and it hurts all the time...

things that might have triggered the pain: for my birthday my mom took me shopping..and I tried on a shirt that was way to tight and it had a built in bra in it..and when I tried to take it off it hit my chest area real hard.
Later that day My boyfriend took me swimming and when I did a lap I was holding my nose  under the water. I probably was holding my breath for a min. or two. I haven't went swimming in months.

Things I have tried to make it better: I put a icepack in my bra..cold as it was it numbed the pain..for a short time..
My boyfriend told me to try to apply some heat rub to it..and I put arthritis hot on my chest area and on my side and my shoulder blade..and he told me to try to rub vicks vaporub on my chest and put a little in my nose..it didn't work I been doing that for about 3 days..and he picked me up some wellpatch backache pain relieving pads and you can apply it other areas other then your back..and I put it on my chest as best as I could and then put the heat rub on my side and my shoulder..then put a sports bra on so the patches would stay in place..
and he also mentioned to put pressure on my side to see if the pain would ease up. I noticed when I put pressure on my side it stops the pain while I am putting pressure on it..
it has seemed to help a little but not much..
