Chest pain for the past 20 days

by Nila, Oct 07, 1999 12:00AM
I am 35 years old male. 20 days before I had pain in my chest particularly left side and inner of back side. During sleep there was no pain. I first consulted a general doctor who examined my pulse and blood pressure and said my heart is normal and gave 10 Dolona capsules 50mg & 10 Dolo-Neurobion tablets.

After 4 days the pain was still there and I consulted a cardiologist and he checked using ECG and also told my heart is normal. He gave me 15 Mylanta antacid tabs and 20 Neurosanbe tablets. He advised to do some exercise like jogging.

After 10 days the pain was still there and when I exercise the pain increased. I consulted another specialist for internals in a big hospital. He also examined by ECG and said my heart is normal. He gave me Dudencer, Amitriptyline 25mg, Xanax 0.5 and Prepulcid 5 mg for 1 week. But even now the pain remains. Now I stopped exercising.

In the mean time I suspected any lungs problem and took X-ray and consulted a doctor. He said my lungs are normal.

I normally do not do exercise and recently (for the past 1 month) started smoking. But the day I sensed chest pain I immediately stopped smoking.

Now I am getting some sort of burning sensation near the breast area. But during night time the pain is getting reduced.

Please help me on the following:
1.Whom I should consult now?
2.What other checks I should do other than X-ray, ECG, Blood pressure and pulse rate ?
3.Can I do exercise now?
4.What type of food I should avoid?
5.What type of fruits will help?

Dear Nila,

You should address these questions to your primary internist.  Perhaps a more extensive GI work up would be beneficial.  I am unable to recommend a specific exercise program or diet in this forum.  These items should be discussed with your internist.
